Spital Nidwalden to offer GLA:D training program
Stans, 21 August 2025
Stans - The hospital in Nidwalden is going to offer its patients the patented GLA:D Switzerland back program, which is designed to improve quality of life for people with long-term back pain. To participate, patients need a referral from a physiotherapist.
Spital Nidwalden is integrating the GLA:D Switzerland Back Program to provide patients suffering from back pain with the necessary skills to manage their pain independently and function in everyday life, according to a statement.
The program includes standardized examinations as well as a standardized, evidence-based, and tried-and-tested education and exercise program with tailored dosage and progression options for patients. The goal is to implement international best practice guidelines in a quality-controlled way, enabling people with persistent and recurring lower back pain to enjoy a good quality of life.
In a statement, the hospital recommends treatment for patients with non-specific lower back pain, chronic or recurring back pain, and individuals who have completed prior treatment and require guided exercises or who are unsure about how to exercise. The program is not recommended for people with back pain due to acute nerve root involvement, such as an acute herniated disc, or acute or isolated episodes of lumbar back pain.
The GLA:D Switzerland back program is offered and carried out by specially trained and certified physical therapists, so anyone interested in participating at Spital Nidwalden will need a physical therapy prescription. ce/ja
