Nidwalden is located in the heart of Switzerland. Covering an area of 276 km2, the Canton of Nidwalden stretches between Mount Pilatus in Hergiswil, Lake Lucerne and the Joch Pass at the Titlis Glacier.

Culture, leisure and tourism

Culturally, Nidwalden offers a wide range of exhibitions, markets, theatre performances, concerts and festivals. Many clubs and organisations actively shape cultural life and offer opportunities for participation and involvement.

Above all, the customs that are practised contribute to the cultural identity and cohesion of the population.

Education

The Nidwalden municipalities have a dense network of primary and orientation schools. In the main town of Stans, there is the Collegium St. Fidelis secondary school, with around 500 pupils, which offers the federal baccalaureate qualification as a long-term baccalaureate school.

Health

Nidwalden offers a comprehensive range of medical services. Nidwalden Hospital in Stans has all the important medical specialties of extended primary care. With a high level of professionalism and medical expertise, state-of-the-art equipment and medical technology, the cantonal hospital offers a high level of comfort and professional care.

All eleven Nidwalden municipalities offer a wide range of practising doctors of all disciplines, as well as therapists, pharmacies, drug stores and medical service providers.
